Should Managed Service Providers or MSPs register their processes for federal copyright protection?

Most Managed Service Providers or MSPs have processes they use to serve customers. What happens if an employee leaves with the material?  What about a customer who hires the employee and gets the information? What about a customer using the information post-termination?
